Family Stay at the Tennessean Hotel
Started our holiday break off with a family friendly stay (including our pup Sofie) with a cozy stay at the Tennessean Hotel in downtown Knoxville, TN! We loved spending time back in my home city near UTK campus enjoying the city life! Keep reading to see more of the special holiday package Sofie was a part of during our stay!

The Tennessean
Located steps away from Market Square, the Tennessean is in one of my favorite downtown spots directly across from the Sunsphere! If you’ve never been to Knoxville, the Sunsphere is what marks World’s Fair Park and is a beacon that shines over downtown. I spent a lot of time in this area during my college years, and actually visited the Tennessean during its renovation period while in Architecture school, and was so excited to come this holiday season!
Since Nathan and I were coming from Nashville, we chose to stay 2 nights to enjoy our time in Knoxville with Sofie and my parents who live close by! Our first night, we got in pretty late due to Nashville traffic, but was able to order pizza and icees to the hotel and sleep in late. Our first morning, Sofie got a long walk through World’s Fair Park and breakfast at one of our favorite Market Square spots, Ruby Sunshine.
We spent the rest of the afternoon shopping around the city and spending dinner with my family before heading back to the hotel to surprise Sofie with her in-room dinner! We couldn’t resist ordering the chocolate chip cookies & hotty toddy’s which to this day is still the best cookie I’ve ever eaten! Not only was the room service quick and loving of Sofie, but made the room stay feel like we were at home.
Santa Paws Package
During our stay, the hotel was running an exciting holiday package for pups; Santa Paws, which included tons of fun treats for Sofie including cookies, in-room dining experience, and even more cookies! We were also greeted at valet with dog treats to welcome her into the space and get her excited about the stay. I honestly can say Sofie has never been welcomed like this and it made the hotel feel like home for the weekend!
Overall Thoughts
We loved our stay at the Tennessean and can’t wait for our next trip back! Being so close to UTK campus, downtown and Market Square, it is the perfect location for our family when visiting Knoxville. Not only was our hotel room cozy & comfortable, but the staff went above and beyond to make us & Sofie feel like we were at home for the holidays! I can’t wait to bring her & Millie back next time!
Nathan and I loved spending some quality time with Sofie during the holidays before adding another pup to our family! This was the perfect escape before the storm of puppy fever and gave us a chance to enjoy Knoxville the way we used to when we were in college! Whether you’re from Knoxville or new to the area, the Tennessean staff is knowledgable in all local events + hot spots near by and even let us know of some places to try out!
