New York Fashion Week 2019; Outfit Roundup + Tips for attending

I attended my first ever New York Fashion week just a few short weeks ago and MAN OH MAN did I love it! I never in a million years, would’ve thought the city life was for me, but after a quick weekend trip, I felt like I was living my BEST life. During the trip, I put together a few question polls where y’all asked many questions about the trip and I’ve answered those below to give some tips I wish I could’ve known before attending! All outfit details are linked under each photo + scroll to the bottom for my NYFW tips!

Tips for Attending NYFW:
- How do you get invited to NYFW? Anyone can go! Even while I used to think you had to get an invite, you actually don’t, just book a flight, get a hotel and you’re there! Thankfully I booked my hotel months in advance and had 2 roommates to help split the cost!
- Invites to Events/Parties: Once I knew I was going, I reached out to all the brands I was currently working with to see if the would be in New York for Fashion week, and let them know I would be there. This got me into most of my events, plus led me to finding out about other events. I also had some dream brands I knew were located in New York, and sent several emails to get in contact. Regardless of how you contact brands, the important thing is to do this in advance! I only started two weeks before and wish I would’ve started earlier, but wasn’t 100% sure I was going.
- Invites to Fashion Shows: After the schedule is released, head to the official New York Fashion Week website to see the lineup and select brands that you’d be interested in attending. While events can be set up more last minute, I’d recommend reaching out to PR emails (also listed on the official website next to each show) 4-6 weeks before attending. I loved attending the few fashion shows I went too, but was more focused on meeting with brands during my short trip. I’m so glad I did get to attend the Rebecca Minkoff Preview and saw a few runways from the front row! It was such a great experience I will never forget!
- How to pack for NYFW: This was something I spent a lot of prep on! I started reaching out to brands I had previously worked with and some new ones to get some fun outfits to wear during the trip. I loved going a little over the top with my fashion during NYFW and brought a total of 20 outfits to wear/shoot content with over the short weekend. While I was only there for 4 days, I had multiple brand meetings, events and shows to attend throughout the days, and changed multiple times each day. Overpacking is defenitely better for fashion week, as I had some brand meetings pop up last minute and event got an invite to an event the day of that I would’ve needed another outfit for if I didn’t bring extras!
- Don’t Overbook: The hype around NYFW is definitely something we are all aware of, but even I got too excited and overplanned my short first trip. Over the course of one day, I had 10 brand meetings, one event, and two fashion shows. Unfortunately this led to no down time in the afternoons or nights and I didn’t get to enjoy the city as much as I would’ve liked too. I don’t regret any of the meetings/events I went too, but would rather stay longer next time, or schedule a little less!
I hope this quick recap helped anyone hoping to attend the next New York Fashion Week! In January 2019, I made a goal of attending my first fashion week, and thankfully was able to make it happen! Here’s to lots of fashion weeks in my future and hopefully yours too!
